Pie Crust That’s Out of This World Good

Ok, here’s the Best pie crust recipe that I know of.  It came from my mom’s college roommate, I’m not sure what her name was.  Sorry.  It’s better than any other crust I have ever tried.  Flaky, a bit salty, very tasty, and pretty much the best part of any pie you make with it.  Yeah, it’s that good.  This makes enough pie crust for a double crust pie or two single crust pies.  I like to roll it out between two pieces of plastic wrap to make it easier to transfer and cleanup.

3 Cups Flour

1-1/2 Cup Shortening

1 teaspoon Salt

1 Tablespoon Vinegar

1 Egg

5-6 Tablespoons Cold Water

Mix flour and salt in a bowl.  Cut in shortening until it resembles course crumbs.  Stir in vinegar, egg, and water just until moistened.  Knead 10 times and then roll out between plastic wrap.  Pie crust should look marbled and slightly unmixed.  The less you play with it, the better it will be.  Just roll it out once, put it in the pan, and poke with a fork.  Then, either bake it or fill it depending on the type of pie you’re making.  Enjoy!

    Boy do I love pie!

Problem is: Can’t find anyone to bake em’ for me. I would do it myself but I’ve given up on making the pie crust. So, now I will be trying your recipe here to see if “I can do it myself.” Thanks so much. All your advice has been right on the mark.

Thanks, Bill. I hope that you enjoy this pie crust as much as I do. It’s so easy my 8 year old makes it himself (with a few reminders and help from afar). Good luck on your quest to make a great pie!

    Hi Amy,
I guess we both have been very busy lately but now that fall is here, I am going to try your pie crust recipe. My Hubs never likes the crust( either too soggy or dry )

I going to try a lattice pattern too…thanks…hope all is well with you and yours ! LOL

      Hi Lynn,
Glad you’re going to try this crust. It really is great. If it is too dry when you’re mixing it, you can add a bit more water. It happens to me when I’m not careful about measuring the flour, or if I use smaller eggs. Good luck and thanks for stopping by even though you’re busy. See ya!
      Amy

This is different than the recipe I’ve always used. Got it from my mom. I will be trying this though. Thanks for this great site. Lots for me to check out.
